Mizzenmast Crew - White For our latest offering we thought that we'd give a nod to the wealth of Naval Heritage our City has to offer by creating a tee shirt showing some telegraphic signals used in the marine vocabulary by Admiral Horatio Nelson, Captain of Her Majesty’s ship 'Victory' as she and the English fleet approached the combined Spanish and French fleets in the battle of Trafalgar. Admiral Nelson ordered his signalling officer to give a number of strategic instructions to his fleet but before the Victory lifted its final flags of instruction "engage the enemy more closely" he sent out a message of motivation...'England confides that every man will do his duty' The signalling officer swapped 'confides' with 'expects' as a speedier way of getting the message up the ships mizzenmast. From this battle forth in 1805 the Admiral's message became world famous and has been used by fleets including the United States, France and Japan.
