New Balance Numeric teams up with legendary Edinburgh-based skate shop Focus for a special edition of their 480 shoe, bringing together classic New Balance basketball styling and details inspired by Scotland’s history, culture and identity. The New Balance Numeric x Focus 480 features a blue suede and white pebble leather upper, taking its colours from the Scottish Saltire flag, alongside a load carefully executed details that make this skate shoe so eye-catching.
Taking centre stage is the unicorn, Scotland’s national animal, displayed prominently on the tongue. A long-standing symbol of purity, strength and fierce, untamed freedom, the unicorn can be found across Scottish architecture and infrastructure. Its inclusion gives the collaboration a strong connection to the country, while adding a distinctive finish to the NM480.
There are plenty more references throughout the design. An orange accent on the high-rebound FuelCell midsole pays tribute to Scotland’s other national drink, Irn-Bru. The heel pulls feature the words “Focus” and “Alba”, the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland, while reflective trim runs across the N branding, laces and heel pulls for added visibility and pop.
One of the standout features is the tongue stash pocket, designed to resemble the sporran worn with a traditional kilt. Inside, removable foam padding lets you adjust the fit, whether you prefer a slimmer or puffier feel. Underfoot, the Abzorb insole features an image inspired by Edinburgh’s cobbled streets, with an additional Ortholite insole supplied as an alternative. Two lace options complete the package, with reflective blue flat laces and white tube laces included.
