Established back in 1938 as the Columbia Hat Company, Columbia has grown to become one of the biggest names in outdoor and adventure gear. Originally founded by the Lamfrom family, who settled in Portland, Oregon, after fleeing Nazi Germany, the company produced hats for a variety of pastimes and leisure activities until the family decided to pivot into creating a range of sportswear for hunters, skiers, and fishermen. Since then, Columbia has continued to innovate; they were the first to produce Gore-Tex parkas and use pioneering fabric and footwear technologies, including OmniHeat, OutDry and Omni-Grip, to name just a few.
