About us
Bored of Southsea
Our Story:
Bored of Southsea is an independent UK skate shop that opened its doors in October 1997, with the aim of creating a skater-run store that supports the local skate scene in Portsmouth, and the surrounding area. We offer high-quality, good-looking products from the best skateboard hardware, clothing brands and skate shoes on the market.
The first few years of trading were spent in Elm Grove, around the early 00s, sharing the unit for a while with "Unkle Al's" records, and "Morgans" BMX supplies, fusing sub-cultures and growing a local community of outliers. We then moved into 23 Albert Road, and as the store developed we began to focus more on producing our shop product, working with different artists and designers to create mostly printed logo goods.
By far the most popular store t-shirt has been the Southsea Bronx Strong Island design, created for us by Bruce Jamieson. His smiley sunshine logo has been a staple for locals and visiting tourists for decades, with no sign of slowing. It's appeared on everything from air fresheners to signet rings, and the stickers and tees have been spotted everywhere, from Perth to Peru.
Our store product continued to grow, and we’ve had the great fortune of collaborating with amazing brands including Carhartt WIP, Spitfire Wheels, Chocolate Skateboards, DVS Shoes, Real Skateboards, Independent Trucks and more. Working with artists including Richard Sawyer “French”, Fergus Purcell (Palace/Tonite), Justin Poulter, Bruce Jamieson (I Love Dust), Rob Trigg (Palace), John Geany, David Earl Dixon, Mark ‘Fos’ Foster, Luke Dharma 77, Rob Ryan, Russell Hardman AKA ‘Grow a Brain”, Sodavekt, and Polar Skate Co's very own Pontus Alv. For the last 10 years, David Millard has been at Bored's creative helm, designing all graphics and logos for the shop.
As a central part of the local skate scene in Portsmouth and Hampshire for nearly thirty years. In that time we've been involved in all aspects of the skate community, we've helped save the iconic Southsea Skatepark from closing down, raised the money and worked to get Milton Skatepark built, as well as working alongside Portsmouth City Council to help our friends at Pitt St Skatepark realise the dream of opening an indoor skatepark in the city.
Since day one we've stocked a wide choice of exclusive brands and products, providing quality gear and helping you to look good. We're always available to answer any questions or queries about our products, in-store and online. Our friendly staff has decades of knowledge and experience regarding skateboard hardware, skate apparel, and footwear. So don't hesitate to get in touch, we're here to help.

Growing Skateboarding in Portsmouth
The store helped plan, design and build Milton Skatepark in association with Portsmouth City Council which has helped grow the local the skate scene.
We regularly organise skate jams, video premiers and have hosted tours by international brands, including Blueprint Skateboards, Nike SB, New Balance Numeric, Volcom, Palace Skateboards and Polar Skate Co and most recently Dickies.
Bored has worked alongside the Undercover Skatepark Project to create what is now Pitt St Skatepark which is thriving, bringing skateboarders from all-over the country to the city.
Bored of Southsea continues to support and promote the growing skate scene here in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas just as we did when we opened back in 1997.
